common questions

How will I know if counselling is right for me?

You may not know for certain until you experience it for yourself, and that is completely okay. Taking the first step can feel daunting, which is why I offer a free initial consultation. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and decide whether counselling feels like the right support for you at this time.

It is also important to remember that finding the right counsellor is a personal process. If I do not feel like the right fit for you, that does not mean counselling is not right for you — it may simply mean that someone else is better suited to support you. Please do not give up on seeking the help you deserve; reaching out is already a brave and meaningful step.

What is counselling? and how does it work?

Counselling is a safe, confidential, and supportive space where you can talk openly about whatever is troubling you. It offers time to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with someone who will listen with empathy, acceptance, and without judgement. For many people, counselling can help bring greater clarity, self-understanding, and insight, and can support healing, growth, and positive change.

How counselling works will depend on your individual needs, goals, and what feels right for you. I offer a warm and welcoming therapeutic relationship where the pace and focus of each session are led by you. I will never encourage you to explore anything before you feel ready, and we can work together in a way that feels safe, supportive, and meaningful. I offer a free initial consultation so you can ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and decide whether counselling with me feels like the right fit for you.

How long does it take and how many sessions do I need?

There is no fixed answer to this, because counselling is a deeply personal process and every person’s needs are different. Some people come for a small number of sessions to focus on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term support to explore deeper or more complex experiences. We can think about this together and review it as we go, so the support feels right for you.

Session are weekly and each session lasts around 50 minutes, and the pace and focus are always led by you.  Therapy does not have to follow a fixed format, so we can adapt the frequency as your needs change over time.
